Show Notes

We’re back! WRITING HOME returns for Season 3, which sees Kaiama and Tami returning to the virtual studio and taking on questions of writing, teaching, and being in the world. This time around, they’re joined by Dionne Brand, Ana-Maurine Lara, and Gina Ulysse. Taken together, the insights in these conversations serve as something like a toolkit, offering strategies for boundary-creation, self-making, and the all-important art of recovery. Listen to this trailer for season 03 as we continue on our journey of writing our way home.

Speaker 1 00:00:08 The next thing you have to do Speaker 2 00:00:09 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Speaker 1 00:00:11 Right? It's the next thing you have to do. And the language of that recovery has to be the next thing that you do. Yeah? Speaker 2 00:00:18 Yeah. Speaker 1 00:00:19 Surviving though, the language of survival, Speaker 2 00:00:22 What's left at the end of the day when you've divided and multiplied and subtracted pieces of ourselves to just be able to stay standing. Um, Speaker 3 00:00:32 Because I think what, what I can say about this is, to the extent that I have troubled and continue to trouble, I'm at peace with myself. That's very clear. Um, I think I've gone through places where I've ruffled things and, and, and, but it's not, it -- One of the things I tell students usually is like, you don't really know a boundary until you've pushed against it. I mean, that's just a fact. Kaiama 00:01:00 Hello, Tami Navarro. Tami 00:01:02 Hi, Kaiama Glover. How are you? Kaiama 00:01:03 Fantastic. Because I'm just really very, very happy to be here back in this space with you again! Tami 00:01:10 Me too. It's incredible and invigorating and it's season three somehow...? I don't know. I'm amazed. Kaiama 00:01:18 <laugh>, I know we say this literally every season, but, um, it does feel like a miracle. It feels like a miracle that we have made it through our third season, and that we have been able to create this space against the backdrop of so much tragedy and pain and difficulty on many, many levels. So, um, yeah, I'm feeling immense gratitude for our WRITING HOME and for this collaboration. Tami 00:01:42 Yeah, it's incredible. We again, somehow had the opportunity to talk with incredibly talented writers and thinkers, and they've offered us really valuable tools to work with and live with, and I'm so excited to share these conversations with our audience. Kaiama 00:01:57 Yes, go ahead. Tell people what they have in store for this season. Tami 00:02:01 On season three of WRITING HOME, you're gonna hear from Dionne Brand, Ana-Maurine Lara, and Gina Ulysse. Kaiama 00:02:10 Yes. One as cool as the next and as exciting to hear from. Um, I like the idea that they really gave us some tools for this offering that is WRITING HOME and I hope people can really take advantage of it and enjoy, um, everything that these incredible bankers have to offer. Tami 00:02:27 It's amazing. I am so thrilled to be part of this project and I can't wait for you all to hear it. Kaiama 00:02:32 Yes. Coming to the podcast station near you.
