Speaker 0 00:00:14 As a writer, I think I have to imagine myself as being just the most honest and open journalist that I can be. I, you know, I'm pretty unflinching, but also have to be humane.
Speaker 1 00:00:28 I am also thinking not about happier endings, but just thinking of just like, maybe it's because there's been so much pain in this moment, like what would, what would goodness be like? What would joy--more joy--be like in the forefront of, of a work?
Speaker 2 00:00:45 What does it mean to be part of a collection of people who live on a collection of islands? What does that mean? And I think we've always been questioning that. So our understanding of our place, physical place, I think is always a question for us.
Speaker 3 00:00:55 Writing is a solo act and that's why it's become like breathing to me. I have to write, I just, uh, I don't know any other way to live. I don't know. I don't know any other way,
Speaker 4 00:01:24 Hey, Tammy.
Speaker 5 00:01:26 Hi, Kaiama. Here we are sharing more conversations through Writing Home.
Speaker 4 00:01:30 I'm so excited to be back here with you and to be rolling out season two. Finally, it's been a year, right?
Speaker 5 00:01:36 Nearly a year.
Speaker 4 00:01:38 Nearly a year since we launched season one back in August, 2020. Um, but I meant it's been a year. Like it has been a year.
Speaker 5 00:01:47 Oh, you mean the global pandemic
Speaker 4 00:01:49 It's ongoing.
Speaker 5 00:01:51 And the pandemic of racist violence.
Speaker 4 00:01:53 Also ongoing.
Speaker 5 00:01:55 And the crash and burn of the Trump presidency.
Speaker 4 00:01:58 Those after shots remain a very real thing.
Speaker 5 00:02:01 Okay. Yeah. It's been a year, [laughter] but we're still here.
Speaker 4 00:02:05 Yes. We're still here, here again. And with what I think is a pretty stellar season of conversations with a lineup of dream guests, we were just so incredibly lucky to get to talk to us over these last months.
Speaker 5 00:02:18 We had Marlon James, Katia Ulysse.
Speaker 4 00:02:22. Tiphanie Yanique, Edwidge Danticat.
Speaker 5 00:02:23 You know, it feels kind of miraculous that we managed to get ourselves and the tech together to produce the show.
Speaker 4 00:02:30 I mean, some of it's maybe a little rough around the edges,
Speaker 5 00:02:33 Maybe a little, but we did try a few ways to get back to our in-person sound quality.
Speaker 4 00:02:39 Yeah. The zooms were not always our friend. Um, but everyone really rose to the challenge. And we did end up with some incredible moments that I'm glad goal now live in the world.
Speaker 5 00:02:48 Yeah. I'm feeling really proud of what we've put together.
Speaker 4 00:02:52 And relieved.
Speaker 5 00:02:53 And relieved, but mostly proud. We have an amazing lineup of guests, a new platform, an updated website. We're ready to welcome folks into the show. So welcome everyone.
